Yahoo! started a blogging venture with the American Cancer Society called Blog For Hope™ to raise cancer awareness. For the next month, an eclectic mix of celebrities will write about their experiences and insights about fighting cancer. I found the juxtaposition of the celebrities in this graphic a tad strange.

The liberal American politician and the Canadian comedian. Interesting combination.

I met Tom Green once. In '98, back before he migrated to MTV, his local cable access show was picked up by a Canadian comedy network. He was in Toronto doing the talk-show rounds, so I stopped by a taping of the Dini Petty Show (a bad Oprah knock-off). After the taping, he invited his fans in the audience to go to the movies with him later that evening. Conveniently, the theatre he picked was literally 2 blocks from my apartment, so I decided to join him. (The movie was The Wedding Singer, starring his future wife, Drew Barrymore.)

About a dozen of us showed up. Afterwards, we went to a local pub for a few drinks, then to a 24-hour breakfast joint for a late night snack. Off camera, Tom's a real nice, down-to-earth guy. Nothing like the nut-job you see on TV. We had a funny conversation about Enos, that painful Dukes of Hazzard spin-off where Deputy Enos gets transferred to Los Angeles.

I enjoyed Tom's show when he was on MTV and recall his references to his Canadian Cable access show. He never seemed like a mean guy on his show. Gave his parents a hard time, but not in a mean way.

With respect to the parents, he's no Bam Mangara, that's for sure.
