There was another appalling display of Anti-Americanism in Cuba North last night. While I lived there, I heard infantile "America Sucks / Americans are dumb / Americans have no culture / Etc..." gibes daily, yet this disrespectful affront was different. Usually, Canadians reserve such comments for private, idle chatter amongst themselves. Last night they brandished their reflexive bigotry towards America for all to see. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Cuba North owes its wealth, security and much vaunted social system to its long, prosperous trade relationship with the US. Without it, the Great White North would have succumbed to the flirtations of hardcore socialism to become the Great Red North. The special brand of blind hypocrisy that reared its ugly head last night was a big part of what prompted me to seek out a life and career in the US. The thought of spending the rest of my life in a country that prides itself on maintaining such an ungrateful, duplicitous relationship with its economic lifeline sickened me. I can only hope Canadians will someday realize the folly of their moral superiority complex towards America.
